Destiny

Destiny - born from the dialogue and idea of Arianna Carossa and Germano Cecere - addresses the relationship between art and science, between tangible thought and poetic reflections. It draws on a complex research into the mechanisms of epigenetic inheritance. The visual artist Arianna Carossa (Genoa, Italy, 1973) and the scientist and researcher Germano Cecere have in fact embarked on a dialectical and profound exchange, mixing the two disciplines – visual art with its forms of expression, and pure science – that, even historically, have often touched upon each other. The focus of the exchange between the two professionals revolves around DNA and hereditary traits: Carossa and Cecere, confronting each other in their respective disciplines – visual art with its restitutions, and pure science – aim to investigate the foundational questions from which the theory of epigenetic inheritance originates. How can education transmitted through third parties (different molecules) be reconciled with lived experiences? Do the actions of others influence the individual? Is each human being connected to the others? These are some of the questions posed, which conceal a prelude of interconnections and new stratifications of thought.

Arianna Carossa is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in New York City. Her practice spans sculpture, painting, and performance, exploring limits through projects in extreme sites such as the Nevada desert, a marble quarry in Tuscany, a gold mine in Mexico, and the former psychiatric hospital in Genoa. She has exhibited at MACRO Rome, Villa Croce Museum, Wolfsonian Museum Miami, Kunstbalkon Documenta 11, Mina Museum, Italian Cultural Institute Mexico City, former Riding Hall of the Hermitage Saint Petersburg, and Institut Pasteur – Musée Pasteur Paris. She has participated in residencies at Artist Alliance NY and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Author of The Aesthetic of My Disappearance (Blisterzine, 2014, MoMA PS1), she has collaborated with Eataly, Kartell, Brembo, Deloitte, and Intesa Fideuram. Her works are held in public and private collections. In 2025 she will collaborate with the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris. Arianna Carossa è un'artista multidisciplinare che vive e lavora a New York City. La sua ricerca attraversa scultura, pittura e performance, esplorando i limiti attraverso interventi in luoghi estremi come il deserto del Nevada, una cava di marmo in Toscana, una miniera d'oro in Messico e l'ex ospedale psichiatrico di Genova.
